  • Position: Micro- Nano- Biotechnologies
  • Affiliation: University of Cyprus (ME)

Prof. Theodora Krasia-Christoforou (female) is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Polymers/Polymer processing Laboratories at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, University of Cyprus. She received a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Cyprus, (1999), a M.Sc. in Chemical Research and Diploma of the Imperial College (DIC) from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London in the U.K. (2000) and a Dr.Rer.Nat. in Physical Chemistry from the Max-Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (University of Potsdam) in Germany (2003). Her research interests are focused on the synthesis and characterization of functional organic polymers of various chemical structures and architectures (block and random copolymers, polymer networks), using controlled and conventional free radical polymerisation methodologies. She is particularly interested in the generation of micellar nanomorphologies based on well-defined amphiphilic block copolymers in solution.  Such amphiphilic block copolymer micelles may act among others as nanoreservoirs for the encapsulation of pharmaceutical compounds and contrast enhancement agents. Besides the synthesis of polymer-based nanohybrids prepared in solution, her group is also active in the preparation of polymer-based nanocomposites in the form of electrospun fibers and 3D-networks. Dr. Krasia-Christoforou has co-authored 39 peer-reviewed articles and 8 book chapters in the field of polymer science. She is a reviewer in several peer-reviewed Journals including Chemical Science, ACS Macro Letters, Macromolecules, Chemical Communications, Biomacromolecules, Acta Biomaterialia, Polymer Chemistry, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry, RSC Advances, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, Polymer, European Polymer Journal, Journal of Materials Science, Drug Delivery, Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Drug Delivery, etc. Dr. Theodora Krasia-Christoforou is also an active MC member of the COST Action MP1206 (2013 – 2017) (http://www.electrospinning-cost.eu/) and the SimInhale COST Action MP1404 (http://www.siminhale-cost.eu/) and a group member in the COST Action TD1402 “Multifunctional Nanoparticles for Magnetic Hyperthermia and Indirect Radiation Therapy” RADIOMAG (2014-2018) (http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/tdp/TD1402).
