BERC’s vision is to become one of the leading Centres of Excellence and Innovation in Europe and beyond, one that will encomvision missionpass an integrated and inspiring ecosystem to: (i) Nurture interdisciplinary convergence and integration with a common focus: excellence and sustainability (ii) Develop and expand an enabling infrastructure integrating specimen and data collection with advanced analytics (iii) Establish an interdisciplinary education and training platform for expertise, professional development, stakeholder engagement, and common “language” for the varied interdisciplinary fields involved (iv) Spearhead innovation and entrepreneurship for long-term financial sustainability and regional/European economic growth (v) Orchestrate the necessary organisational transformation to create a flexible, expanding Centre with a thriving interdisciplinary population (vi) Establish a vibrant centre with top quality students, advanced researchers/faculty, cutting edge educational programmes, innovative research, superior facilities, and synergistic strategic partnerships in order to provide effective therapeutics for longstanding medical issues and to alleviate human pain.

Mission

BERC purports to integrate all related biomedical engineering activities within the University of Cyprus, for the discovery and application of innovative solutions focussing on bioengineered precision medicine based on the following technologies: (i) Sensing, Electronics & Micro- & Nano- Biotechnologies (ii) Digital Health (iii) Robotics and Rehabilitation (iv) Bioinformatics, Modelling & Systems Medicine (v) Imaging, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence supported by (i) Molecular/Cellular Biosciences (-omics) and (ii) Clinical Development & Validation. The Centre will focus the application of the developed technologies on key clinical fields: cardiovascular, oncology, neurology, pulmonology, among other related fields – all with aim of achieving meaningful therapeutic results.
