Dr. Vasileios Vavourakis is a newly-appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UCY and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at University College London. (2017-present). Before, he was a Senior Research Associate and a Marie-Curie Fellow at the Centre for Medical Imaging Computing at UCL (2013-2017), at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UCY (2010-2013) at the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) in Greece, etc. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2006) and his Diploma in Aeronautics (2001) from the University of Patras, Greece. He has published over 26 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and book chapters in the fields of biomedical engineering, multiscale modelling and numerical methods. His research currently receives ~50 citations per year (h-index:11); Dr Vavourakis also serves as a reviewer in prominent journals (PLOS, J Biomech R Soc, Interf, BMMB, Med Phys, etc.) and he has delivered numerous invited talks and oral presentations in international and European scientific fora. He therefore has an established track record and extensive expertise in the research topics of the IPMT project. Moreover, he has active international and European collaborations with several academics and researchers (Oxford, KCL, Glasgow, Frauhnhofer, Purdue Univ., Auckland, Rensselaer Polytechnic, etc.), as well as with the industry (Philips Research-Hamburg, BIOMAX Informatics AG, Nuomidis AG, LifeBit) – enabling the ER to create further collaborations during and after the end of the project.
