Dr Ioanna Zouvani, MD is the Director of the Nicosia General Hospital, Department of Histopathology since 2008, supervising both medical and scientific personnel across all aspects of macro- and micro-pathology. While her main research interests have included renal pathology and breast cancer, she is an active member of the neuropathology team of NGH. She has been actively participating in several projects with Cypriot patients in collaboration with major academic teams in Cyprus including: Electron microscopy of kidney biopsies (Pancyprian Association of Kidney Patients and Friends, 2003-2005); Epidemiology of breast cancer in Cyprus (Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation, 2004-2006); Evstohon: New Generation of Fluorescent Contrast Agents for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Colorectal Cancer (RPF, 2007-2009); Creation of a Kidney Specific Biobank and Infrastructure for Genomics/ Proteomics Research (RPF, Strategic Projects, 2008). As of 2015 she is in charge of the Pathology training program at the UCY Medical School. Dr Zouvani has been the founder and co-organizer of the Cyprus Pathology Congress. She is a member of Cyprus Society of Pathology, Hellenic Society of Pathology, European Society of Pathology (ESP) - Nephropathology Working Group and the Greek Division of the International Academy of Pathology. She is the co-author of 15 peer-reviewed papers.
